1. Introduction
Solmaz Limited has a zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery, forced labour, human trafficking and child labour. This statement sets out the steps we take to ensure that such practices are not present in our business or in our supply chain. It reflects the principles of the Modern Slavery Act 2015.
2. Our business and supply chain
We are a London-based construction, refurbishment and joinery company operating across London and the South-East of England. Our supply chain includes subcontractors, labour providers, material suppliers, plant hire companies and manufacturers. Construction is recognised as a sector with elevated risk, particularly in relation to agency labour and lower-tier suppliers, and we manage that risk accordingly.
3. Our policies and controls
- All workers are entitled to a written statement of employment particulars, lawful pay and the working conditions required by law.
- Right-to-work documentation is checked and recorded before any person starts on site or in the workshop.
- Wages are paid directly to the worker’s own bank account; we do not permit payment to third parties on a worker’s behalf.
- Subcontractors and labour providers are required to confirm their compliance with the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and to extend equivalent requirements down their own supply chain.
- Retention of identity documents by any employer or agent is prohibited.
- We do not permit recruitment fees to be charged to workers.
4. Due diligence
Prospective subcontractors and suppliers are assessed before appointment, including their labour practices where relevant. Site management is alert to indicators such as shared transport and accommodation arrangements, workers who appear to be under another’s control, or inconsistencies in identity and payment records.
5. Reporting concerns
Anyone who suspects that a person working on a Solmaz project may be subject to exploitation should report it immediately to a director at info@solmaz.co.uk or on 020 8450 4400. Reports may be made in confidence and will be investigated promptly. No one will be disadvantaged for raising a genuine concern.
6. Training and awareness
Site supervisors and commercial staff receive guidance on recognising and responding to the signs of labour exploitation, and the subject is included in our site induction material.
7. Approval and review
This statement is approved by the directors of Solmaz Limited and is reviewed annually.
