1. Statement of intent

Solmaz Limited regards the health, safety and welfare of everyone affected by our work as inseparable from the quality of that work. We are committed to complying with the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 and all other applicable legislation, and to providing a safe working environment on every site and in our joinery workshop.

2. Scope

This policy applies to our directors, employees, site personnel, subcontractors, suppliers, visitors and clients, on all construction, refurbishment, fit-out and joinery activities.

3. Responsibilities

Directors provide the resources, time and information necessary for safe working, and review performance regularly. Our directors are personally involved in projects from inception to completion, which includes oversight of safety standards.

Project managers and site supervisors implement the construction phase plan, carry out inductions, monitor risk assessments and method statements, and stop work where a risk is not adequately controlled.

Employees and subcontractors are required to work in accordance with the agreed method statements, use the protective equipment provided, report hazards and near misses, and cooperate fully with site management.

4. Arrangements

• Risk assessments and method statements are prepared before work commences and reviewed as conditions change.
• Site inductions are given to all personnel before they start work.
• Competence, qualifications and training records are checked for operatives and subcontractors.
• Plant, equipment and workshop machinery are inspected and maintained on a documented schedule.
• Control measures are applied for the principal construction risks, including work at height, temporary works, demolition, excavation, hot works, dust, noise, asbestos and manual handling.
• Accidents, incidents and near misses are recorded, investigated and reported under RIDDOR where applicable.
• First aid provision, welfare facilities and emergency procedures are established on every site.

5. Consultation and training

We consult our workforce on matters affecting their health and safety and provide the training, information and supervision required for each role. Toolbox talks are held regularly on site and in the workshop.

6. Monitoring and review

Safety performance is monitored through inspections, audits and management review. Our accreditations, including CHAS, provide independent assessment of our arrangements. This policy is reviewed at least annually and following any significant change to our activities or to legislation.
